Environmental Engineering
at the Savona campus of
the University of Genova.
The environmental curricula offered by the Faculty at the Savona Campus
are organized in three levels.
-
A first level degree (FLD) called ‘Laurea di primo livello’ (bachelor)
that spans over three years (Class: basic degree for the civil and environmental
engineering).
-
An intermediate degree or industrial master (IM) of one year duration.
-
A second level degree (SLD) or ‘Laurea Specialistica’ (master of science)
that lasts two years (Class: specialization degree for the civil and environmental
engineering).
For the academic year 2000-2001 the FLD in Engineering for the Environment
with two possible study areas:
-
Land Management and Environment
On the basis of the experience gained with the ‘Diploma in Ingegneria dell’ambiente
e delle Risorse’ and the ‘Diploma in Ingegneria delle Infrastrutture’ the
attracts about 50 students each year and could easily grow in numbers if
the Savona Campus will able to activate the housing resources and increase
the academic services and industrial cooperation. The tutoring activity
will be carried out following the guidelines given by the Sponsor Committee
(SC) of the CAMPUS project that has been active for the Diploma courses.
For the following academic years the Faculty plans to activate, on the
basis of the available resources, the IM and second level curricula. The
teaching offer will be tuned with student and industrial demand.
The IM and SLD presently proposed for the future are:
-
An IM on the theme ‘Industry and Environment’ that has been requested by
the companies operating in the region that are within the AC.
-
A SLD for the theme ‘Land Planning and Environment’ that completes the
curricula for the master of science planned by the Engineering Faculty
committee.
-
A SLD for ‘Industry and Environment’ that will be activated on request
of the industrial part and possibly be modulated through a set of IM to
increase flexibility and enhance continuous learning.
The FLD curricula is specified in the following while for the other two
levels only the formative purposes and possible structure are outlined.
FLD in Land and Environment Engineering
Purposes and job potential
The FLD spans over three years and corresponds to 180 credits.
The FLD curricula will give:
-
first methodological and operational knowledge on math and other basic
sciences;
-
first methodological and operational knowledge on engineering sciences,
with special attention to those related to the environment;
-
knowledge related to experiment planning and operation and data analysis;
-
comprehension of the environmental and social impact of engineering actions;
-
knowledge of professional and ethical responsibilities and implications;
-
knowledge of economical, managing and operational problems within the industrial
contest;
-
general socio-political awareness on environmental and enterprise development
themes;
-
communication capabilities, both oral and written, with regards to ideas
and data representation also in the international contest;
-
individual study methodologies and capabilities of knowledge updating.
The typical professional backdrops are both that of production, management
and service organization and that of design and planning as freelance or
within local public authorities or private companies.
In particular work will be available within the following fields.
-
Civil construction and planning: maintenance and building companies,
engineering societies, public offices for planning, design and control.
-
Industrial management and maintenance: automation, control and logistic
companies, small and medium size enterprises, industrial marketing groups.
-
Environmental planning and design: counseling, public offices, companies
for waste disposal and wastewater treatment, small and medium size enterprise
environmental rules and technological advise societies.

SLD
on
Land Planning and Environmental
Engineering
and
Industrial and Environmental
Engineering
General purposes and outline
The SLDs span over two years (120 credits) and are modulated over 18
courses and a final thesis.
The SLD curricula will complete the FLD curricula regarding the basic
sciences, will develop the student capabilities on the theoretical aspects
and technical and operational matters and introduce to research and advanced
applications in the specialization branches.
Master in Industry and Environment
The IM will last one year and earn 60 credits distributed within 8 modules.
It is meant to introduce continuous formation and re-qualification according
to enterprise requirements and will regard applied subjects such as: informatics,
industrial systems, security and environmental impact evaluation.
